Finance Sector Working Group

Advocacy


The Finance Sector Working Group is one of EuroCham Laos’s key platforms for member engagement and sector‑specific dialogue, bringing private sector financial institutions together to discuss priority issues and opportunities within Lao PDR’s financial ecosystem.

This working group is part of ECCIL’s broader advocacy efforts to represent members’ interests and support constructive engagement with public authorities on financial sector reforms through structured dialogue mechanisms such as the Lao Business Forum.

Purpose and Activities

The Finance Sector Working Group provides a regular forum for banks, insurance and leasing companies, microfinance institutions and other financial stakeholders to:

  • Exchange insights on regulatory and operational challenges affecting the financial sector

  • Identify shared priorities for improving transparency, competitiveness and inclusiveness

  • Support collaboration with relevant government bodies, regulators and development partners

  • Contribute collective input to national dialogue platforms such as the Lao Business Forum  

The group’s work is grounded in the principles of public‑private collaboration and reflects EuroCham Laos’s role in facilitating meaningful discussion between the business community and Lao authorities.

Focus Areas

Past discussions and priority themes within the group have included:

  • Strengthening compliance and regulatory alignment

  • Enhancing the stability and efficiency of foreign currency and trade finance operations

  • Addressing administrative and legal challenges in financial processes

  • Promoting digital transformation and broader access to financial services  

These focus areas are selected in consultation with members and help guide the group’s engagement and advocacy work.
